WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, U.S. Senator Sherrod Brown (D-OH) announced $763,545 for improved bus routes, streetcars, and other transportation infrastructure in the Greater Cincinnati area. The Federal Transit Administration (FTA) has awarded three grants in Southwest Ohio to the Butler County Regional Transit Authority (BCRTA), the Southwest Ohio Regional Transit Authority (Metro/SORTA), and the City of Cincinnati. Brown – who serves as the chairman of the U.S. Senate Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs Committee, which oversees FTA – has championed federal investment to support Ohio’s local transit authorities.

“This investment will create jobs and to connect people with jobs – saving them time and money,” said Senator Brown. “I’m working to make sure Ohio gets its fair share – or more – of infrastructure investment, so Ohio communities can improve transit options and create opportunity.”

Funding from the FTA includes:

  • $150,000 to the BCRTA to conduct a planning study with the city of Oxford to create bicycle and pedestrian connections, including sidewalks, to BCRTA transit facilities.
  • $363,545 to Metro/SORTA to conduct a study on the agency’s fixed-route transit bus routes to gather data on trips to increase the overall condition of the system, enhance access and mobility, improve environmental justice, and strengthen regional support for transit.
  • $250,000 to the City of Cincinnati to conduct studies on the use of innovative technological enhancements to the Cincinnati Connector Streetcar system.
