Community school-supply drive will be held Sunday, August 9, during Ohio’s tax-free weekend

BUTLER COUNTY, Ohio — Butler County Regional Transit Authority, in partnership with Shared Harvest Food Bank and Walmart, will host a community Back-to-School Bus event on Sunday, August 9, from noon to 4:00 p.m. at the Walmart on Princeton Road.

Held during Ohio’s tax-free weekend, the event offers shoppers an easy way to support local students and teachers. Community members are encouraged to purchase one or two additional school-supply items while shopping and donate them by placing them on a BCRTA bus stationed outside the store.

Shared Harvest Food Bank will distribute the donated supplies through its network of school-based pantries and agency partners, helping students and teachers throughout Butler County begin the school year prepared for success.

“Access to education starts with having the basic tools to learn,” said Katie McKnight, Mobility Management Specialist at BCRTA. “This event is a wonderful example of what can happen when local organizations and community members come together to support one another. Every backpack, notebook and box of crayons donated helps a student begin the school year with confidence, and we’re proud to partner with Walmart and Shared Harvest Food Bank to make that possible.”

Allie Godfrey, Director of Development at Shared Harvest Food Bank, emphasized the importance of community partnerships in meeting local needs.

“Generous community partners like Butler County RTA fuel our mission every day,” Godfrey said. “Throughout the years, they have hosted numerous large-scale donation drives to support neighbors in need throughout our county. This Stuff a Bus event will provide essential supplies to our school-based pantries and agency partners. With these donations, we can help ensure that students and teachers have the supplies they need to thrive during the school year. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to the BCRTA team for coordinating this incredible event.”

Food trucks, including Irie Smoothie Café, will also be onsite during the event, creating a fun and welcoming opportunity for the community to come together.

The three partners are working collaboratively to strengthen the community and help ensure every student returns to school with the supplies needed to learn and succeed. Whether it is a single notebook or a backpack filled with supplies, every donation makes a difference.

Community members are encouraged to stop by anytime between noon and 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 9, to help Stuff the Bus and invest in the success of Butler County students.
