October 17, 2025, Hamilton, OH — The Butler County Regional Transit Authority (BCRTA) has been awarded $6 million from the Ohio-Kentucky-Indiana (OKI) Regional Council of Governments to replace up to six aging heavy-duty diesel buses, continuing BCRTA’s commitment to responsible, cost-effective public transportation.
The new buses will be modern, zero-emission battery electric or low-emission hybrid electric vehicles, providing significant long-term savings on fuel and maintenance costs. These replacements are part of BCRTA’s ongoing effort to operate an efficient, reliable transportation system.
“These new vehicles represent an important investment in the efficiency and sustainability of our fleet,” said Matt Dutkevicz, Executive Director, BCRTA. “By replacing older, less efficient diesel buses, we’re reducing operating costs and ensuring our system remains reliable and fiscally responsible for years to come.”
The new buses are designed to meet the Federal Transit Administration’s (FTA) minimum 12-year service life and will significantly reduce both fuel usage and maintenance compared to the current diesel fleet.
In addition to the financial and operational benefits, these modern vehicles offer a quieter more comfortable ride, encouraging public transit use and improving the overall experience for passengers.
This investment underscores BCRTA’s dedication to providing dependable, high-quality transit services,” said Dutkevicz. “Residents can trust a system that is both effective and financially responsible.”
