Butler County RTA Announces Winner of First-Ever Sketch to Street Student Art Contest

May 8, 2026

The Butler County Regional Transit Authority (BCRTA) is excited to announce the winner of its very first Sketch to Street Student Art Contest, a county-wide competition inviting Butler County high school students to create an original bus design.

This year’s contest theme, “The Road to 250 – Honoring America’s Journey,” challenged students to creatively celebrate America’s upcoming 250th birthday while incorporating the role of public transit into their artwork.

The winning design was created by Sam Foss of Ross High School.

Entries were submitted throughout March and reviewed by a volunteer community selection committee, which scored each design based on creativity, originality, and theme connection.

BCRTA received several impressive and highly creative submissions from students across Butler County.

“Sam did an amazing job incorporating the evolution of transit into his design,” said Shawn Cowan, Director of Customer Care and Public Engagement for BCRTA. “All of the entries showed incredible talent and creativity, and we are excited to continue this contest each year with new themes that encourage students to share their creativity and connect with the community.

Sam’s winning bus design will be officially unveiled on May 19 at 10:00 a.m. at Ross High School. The bus will travel throughout the community all summer long and participate in various events celebrating America’s 250th birthday.
