Hamilton, Ohio

The Butler County Regional Transit Authority (BCRTA) has been awarded more than $3 million in funding from the Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) to advance critical infrastructure improvements, support innovative transit technologies, and enhance the rider experience throughout Butler County.

These investments will help BCRTA complete its largest-ever infrastructure project, expand cutting-edge mobility solutions, and strengthen operational resources across the region.

Key Initiatives Supported by ODOT Funding

Future Mobility – Fully Autonomous Vehicle Pilot
BCRTA will launch a fully autonomous vehicle pilot project in Oxford, supported by ODOT funding. Scheduled to begin operation in late 2026, this vehicle will operate as part of the Oxford BGo service, including Miami University’s SafeRide program. This initiative underscores BCRTA’s commitment to advancing innovative mobility solutions that increase transportation access through emerging technology.

Chestnut Street Station – Oxford, OH
Funding will complete the final phase of the Chestnut Street Station multimodal transit hub at 97 W. Chestnut Street in Oxford, with service expected to begin August 18. Enhancements include:

  • Installation of Wi-Fi infrastructure to support operations and provide free public connectivity.
  • Furniture, fixtures, and essential equipment to complete the facility for both riders and staff.
  • A state-of-the-art bus wash system to improve operational efficiency, extend vehicle life, and enhance the rider experience.

Transit Signal Priority Technology
BCRTA will expand its Transit Signal Priority (TSP) infrastructure in Oxford and other communities across Butler County. TSP technology enhances service reliability by enabling buses to communicate with traffic signals, thereby ensuring more consistent and predictable ride times for customers.

Regional Operating Support – EZConnect, Middletown, and CincyLink
Additional funding will support the continued operation of the EZConnect Regional Call Center, bolster services in Middletown, and support outreach initiatives for the CincyLink commuter service. Investments include operational assistance, marketing outreach, and fleet upgrades to sustain and improve these vital regional services.

“These investments from ODOT allow BCRTA to continue delivering safe, reliable, and forward-thinking mobility solutions for our communities,” said BCRTA Executive Director Matt Dutkevicz. “Whether it’s our modernized transit hub in Oxford, new transit technology, or regional call center, these projects demonstrate our commitment to improving how people move throughout Butler County and beyond.”

BCRTA extends its sincere appreciation to the Ohio Department of Transportation for its continued investment in Butler County and its support of efforts to enhance mobility and access throughout the region.
