BCRTA Introduces First Propane Buses, Marking Step Toward a Cleaner Future
October 10, 2025
Hamilton, Ohio, October 10, 2025— The Butler County Regional Transit Authority (BCRTA) is proud to announce the arrival of three new propane-powered buses — the first of their kind in the agency’s growing mixed fleet of gasoline and low-emission vehicles. This milestone marks an exciting step forward in BCRTA’s commitment to providing sustainable and efficient public transportation options for the Butler County community.
“These propane buses are just the beginning,” said Shawn Cowan, Director of Customer Care and Public Engagement. “We’re dedicated to reducing our environmental footprint while continuing to deliver reliable service. Cleaner-burning vehicles mean cleaner air for our riders and our community.”
The new propane buses are part of a broader initiative supported by the Federal Transit Administration’s Ohio Zero Emission Ready Ohio (OH-ZERO) Project, which awarded funding in 2023 to help transit agencies across the state replace aging fleets with low- and zero-emission vehicles.
BCRTA will continue to pursue grant opportunities that support the expansion of a diverse, sustainable fleet that best serves the needs of Butler County residents.
“Smells like progress, not pollution,” added Cowan, with a smile. “Keep an eye out for our new buses — you can’t miss them. They’re covered in bright flowers and represent the cleaner future we’re driving toward.”
