BCRTA Receives $120,000 in OKI Funding to Expand Travel Training Program

The Butler County Regional Transit Authority (BCRTA) has been awarded $120,000 in Section 5310 funding through the Ohio-Kentucky-Indiana Regional Council of Governments (OKI) to support and expand its free travel training program. These federal funds are designed to improve mobility for older adults, individuals with disabilities, and low-income populations throughout Butler County.

BCRTA’s Mobility Management Program provides both individual and group travel training to help residents confidently navigate public transit. Services range from classroom-style instruction to personalized, one-on-one training sessions tailored to individual needs. The additional funding will allow BCRTA to broaden program outreach, develop new travel training materials, and expand printed resources to increase community awareness.

BCRTA works closely with social service agencies, healthcare providers, and community organizations whose constituents rely on public transportation to access essential services. The travel training program is available to the general public and plays an important role in helping residents connect to employment, medical appointments, education, and daily activities.

“We are grateful to OKI for their continued investment in mobility solutions that strengthen access and independence in our community,” said Shawn Cowan, Director of Customer Care and Public Engagement, BCRTA. “This funding allows us to expand our outreach efforts and deepen partnerships that ensure more residents understand and feel comfortable using public transportation.”
