Butler County RTA Highlights Chestnut Street Station at Regional Passenger Rail Committee

December 19, 2025

The Butler County Regional Transit Authority (BCRTA) was invited to speak at the Mid-Ohio Regional Planning Commission’s (MORPC) Passenger Rail Committee Meeting to share updates on the new Chestnut Street Station in Oxford, Ohio.

BCRTA Executive Director Matt Dutkevicz presented how the new multimodal station will serve as a key connection point for future Amtrak service along the Cardinal Line. The committee expressed interest in how Chestnut Street Station’s design and amenities will complement the eventual passenger rail stop.

The Passenger Rail Committee is made up of city leaders from Franklin and Delaware Counties, Ohio Rail Development Commission, representatives from local Chambers of Commerce, and the Central Ohio Transit Authority’s Chief Executive Officer. The group is actively exploring efforts to restore passenger rail service to Columbus, with a proposed stop at the Columbus Convention Center.

“Chestnut Street Station has been in the making for more than a decade,” said Dutkevicz. “It’s the result of strong partnerships and shared vision across local and regional organizations.”

The new facility will provide riders — including future Amtrak passengers — with comfortable waiting areas, public restrooms, real-time rail and transit information, and on-site customer service support. When Amtrak service begins, the train platform and signage will be seamlessly integrated with the Chestnut Street Station, creating a unified travel experience for riders.

Construction of the Chestnut Street Station was made possible through collaboration among multiple partners and funding sources dedicated to expanding mobility options and preparing the region for future passenger rail service.
